West German Art Pottery, a style that became world-famous between the 1950s and 1970s. This specific aesthetic—defined by its heavy texture and earthy tones.
This is a handled pitcher or "hark" vase. The flared rim and elegant handle are classic mid-century shapes.
It features a "volcanic" or "crackle" glaze. The darker brown at the neck and base contrasts with a thick, frothy, ochre/tan midsection. This texture was achieved by adding chemical blowing agents to the glaze, which bubbled up during firing. Browns, ambers, and creams is very typical of the late 1960s and early 1970 for a Brutalist look.
