The Style: "Transitional" Art Deco
This chair sits right on the border between two major design movements:
• Art Deco (1920s–30s): You can see this in the "heavy" and luxurious look of the chair. It prioritizes comfort and geometric bulk (the boxy shape) over the lightness of later styles.
• Mid-Century Modern (1940s–50s): The exposed wooden frame and the cleaner, straighter lines signal the shift toward modernism. The slab wooden supports that run down the front to become the legs are flat and substantial Walnut. This construction is very typical of French "Bridge" chairs.
