Chiswell Teak & Glass Display Cabinet — 1960s

A Chiswell display cabinet in teak with glass shelves, made in Australia in the 1960s.

The mirrored back is what makes a display cabinet work rather than merely hold things. It throws light back through whatever sits on the glass, so ceramics and glassware are lit from behind instead of shadowed against timber.

At 152cm tall and only 39cm deep, it gives height without taking floor — useful in a dining room where a sideboard already occupies the wall.
