A Chiswell armchair in white leather and teak, made in Australia in the late 1960s.

This is the wider frame in the range, and the extra width changes the chair entirely — it reads as a lounge chair rather than a dining chair, and sits comfortably at the head of a table or on its own beside a window. The teak has been treated with Danish oil, which feeds the grain rather than sealing it under a film.

White leather against oiled teak is the combination that has kept these in demand: warm timber, cool upholstery, nothing decorative.
