Tile tops were a practical answer to a real problem — a surface that takes a hot cup or a wet glass without marking, at a time when everything else in the room was oiled timber. That they also look this good was the era doing what it did best.

Three splayed atomic legs rather than four, which is both harder to balance and the reason the table appears to hover.

Small enough at 45cm to work beside a chair or between two.
