An oak shelving unit with square compartments and a cutout back.

The cutout is the practical detail — it clears a skirting board so the unit sits flush against a wall rather than standing proud of it by two centimetres, which is the thing that makes most vintage shelving look wrong in a modern room.

Square compartments rather than long open shelves means books, records and objects each get a defined space, and the grid reads as deliberate rather than merely full.
